KEY REQUIREMENTS

DUTIES:
Incumbent is assigne! d to the Community Living Center (CLC) and serves on the Palli! ative Care Unit within the CLC. The CLC provides long-stay comprehensive rehabilitation for Veterans requiring complex care. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following tasks.

Performs initial and interim patient histories and physical examinations

·

Screens patients and writes orders for hospital admission and discharge

·

Prescribes medication for patients

·

Orders laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests and provides initial interpretation of results

·

Initiates and/or expedites consultations and studies

·

Performs daily rounds to observe and record patients' medical progress

·

Provides on-going care for assigned patients

·

Compiles and presents data to physicians

·

Provides education and counseling to patients and families on preventive care, medical conditions, treatment modalities and! use of prescribed medications and treatments

·

Performs basic and advanced life support, treats acute respiratory failure and life-threatening traumatic injuries

·

Participates in CLC family conferences and communicates with the patient and family

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
·

Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.

·

Education. Must possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE.

·

Registration. Full and current license or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State.

·

Certification. Full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be as a nurse practitioner in an adult-gerontology speciality.

·

English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in sp! ken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent must be capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The candidate will be working closely with others.
