Clinical Diabetes Specialist - RN

Individuals within this job classification are accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluation and documenting care activities in accordance with HHS standards in order to deli! ver efficient, effective and quality patient care. He/she is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.

Individuals in this position are responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating diabetes self-management training for patients and their families. In the in-patient setting, is responsible for assessing, planning and implementing diabetes care-related services appropriate to the acute setting; this includes, and is not limited to, initiation of insulin and other medications, working with insulin pumps, education about self management related to the same. In the outpatient setting, the Diabetes Clinical Specialist Nurse coordinates educational activities with other members of the interdisciplinary staff and documents services. Recommends changes in medication regime to physician and adjusts insulin doses per protocol and physician order. The Diabetes Clinical Specialist Nurse is responsible ! for guiding on-going diabetes education for nursing staff. App! lies up-to-dayte theoretical and clinical knowledge of diabetes management and practices effective teaching styles. Functions as a case manager/team member with other staff to provide education and self management training in a clinically appropriate manner, as described in the department’s policies and procedures. May be involved in clinical research studies and media/hospital activities related to diabetes.
