Practitioner provides diagnostic, therapeutic and
preventive health-care services to SMBHS patients under the
supervision of the p! sychiatrist and physician. The Nurse
Practitioner takes and record histories and physical examinations;
review and interpret lab and other diagnostic test data; order
appropriate treatments, medications and diagnostic studies; and
provide patient education. Counsels patients on medical problems, use
of drugs, expected effects of treatment, child care, diet, and other
therapeutic health maintenance matters. Makes entries in
patient’s permanent medical records. In emergency situations,
administers lifesaving procedures and medications pending
availability of physician. The Nurse Practitioner also
responds to inquiries from referring physicians, hospital staff and
patients regarding the diagnosis and treatment of conditions as well
as eligibility for research protocols. These staff members
participate in daily rounds and may present at patient care
conferences; explain to patients their rights and obligations as
res! earch subjects; act as a resource for patients and patient gro! ups;
maintain contact with patients and referring physicians; and provide
follow-up care throughout the course of a study.

Demonstrates excellent written and
verbal communication skills. Consults and communicates with other
providers integral to patient care during referral admission,
treatment and discharge processes. Works well with others in a spirit
of teamwork and cooperation. Demonstrates compassion, and adjusts
communication to meet the need of the individual. Maintains
therapeutic boundaries. Demonstrates quality customer service with
all internal and external customers. Communicates effectively with
empathy and compassion. Maintains a professional demeanor, positive
attitude, and engages in constructive interactions. Treats others
with respect. Works cooperatively as a member of the treatment team.
Accepts constructive feedback regarding performance.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, &
Abilities:
Knowledge of the information and techniques
needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and
deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug
properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
Excellent communication skills, ability to ask questions and gain
information from callers regarding appropriate of admission. Ability
to convey patient behavior and status verbally and in writing.
Professional verbal and written skills. Able to verbally adapt spoken
communication to meet needs of client. Maintains professional
therapeutic relationships with internal and external customers. Able
to maintain patient confidentiality. Knowledge of human behavior and
performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and
interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods;
and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective
disorde! rs. Ability to safely manage a dangerous and aggressive
patient, to! verbally communicate to de-escalate a crisis situation,
and to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other
accidents. Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks under
deadlines and with short notice.

Licensure/Certification:
Licensed
Psych Nurse Practitioner

Experience:
Two years' work experience in a psychiatric setting.
